Craven Ovenden Town Planning Pty Ltd is a mid-sized practice with arguably the most diverse client base and range of planning work in Queensland. The Brisbane based company has clients and projects from Cooktown to Coolangatta and in central and western Queensland – including 96 private and 12 local government clients. We worked on 162 projects last year alone and at any one time have about 125 projects running. It began in 2005, under its two directors, Steve Craven and Greg Ovenden. The original firm, Craven Town Planning, was established in 1991.

Our core business is providing town planning and development services for both private development industry clients and local government. We provide a complete service, from preliminary advice to preparing and managing applications and drafting Planning Schemes. The company has considerable experience in appeals and land resumption matters, in the Planning and Environment Court and Land Court, where we assist both private and public sector clients.

We have also developed a specialty in liquor licensing, in which capacity we are specialised in preparing development applications, preparing Community Impact Statements for liquor and gaming licence applications and providing expert evidence to the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal.

We pride ourselves in –

  • Providing realistic expectations of development potential – we’re not in the business of backing a losing horse. We would rather you, as a client, have a realistic view of your chances of success.
  • Our  strong experience in rural sector issues –we consistently work in regional areas of the state and understand the different issues facing regional communities.
  • Our regular work with and for local government, not just the private sector – we don’t have an ‘us and them’ attitude – so we understand the way Councils operate and can advise you likewise.
  • Our strict ethic of peer review – We value input from our professional team, so we have regular joint reviews of project outputs. Every job is personally overseen by a director or senior planner.
  • The personal communication that comes from the company’s size
